Veneers In Alexandria & Manassas, VA
Veneers are thin, custom-made shells made from tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve a person’s smile. They are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, or length. They can also be used to cover gaps between teeth or make crooked teeth appear straighter and are generally considered a permanent cosmetic solution.
Candidacy for Veneers
Wondering if you would be a good candidate for this treatment? Our dentist will perform a thorough examination to determine if veneers are appropriate for your unique needs and goals.
Generally, healthy patients with good oral hygiene are good candidates for porcelain veneers. Patients with many fillings or severe enamel erosion are generally not good candidates for this treatment because these areas will not respond well to bonding the veneer into place.
How Are Veneers Applied?
The dentist will examine and take X-rays of your teeth and gums and then create a treatment plan that outlines which teeth need veneers and how to prepare them. Typically, our dentist will make an impression of your teeth for the veneers to be made at a lab.
While your veneers are being created, our dentist will place temporary ones over your teeth to protect them from damage. When your new veneers are ready, the temporary ones are taken off, and the permanent veneers are bonded to your teeth using special cement or resin. We may need to make adjustments to the fit of the veneers to ensure that they sit perfectly in your mouth.
Once the veneers are placed, you’ll return to our office for a follow-up appointment to ensure a proper fit. We’ll also schedule you for further follow-up visits to ensure that your veneers remain in excellent condition for years to come.
Veneer Aftercare
Flossing and brushing twice a day will keep veneers looking their best. It is important to continue to schedule regular check-ups with our dentist in Alexandria & Manassas, VA, for routine cleanings and exams, as recommended for your continued oral health.
While veneers are stain-resistant, it is best to avoid staining foods that can discolor your teeth, such as coffee, tea, red wine, soda, and tobacco. When drinking coffee or tea, use a straw to bypass the teeth to prevent staining your veneers.
How Long Do Veneers Last?
Porcelain veneers are durable and designed to last for many years, but they’re not indestructible. In fact, they can chip or break just like natural teeth. However, the lifespan of your porcelain veneers can be greatly extended by following the care instructions provided by our dentist and by wearing a custom night guard while you sleep.
